Can I send my children to the pool alone?

Reston Association has a supervision* policy for all pool patrons:

  • Children 0-4 years old must be supervised by an adult 18 years or older

  • Children 5-7 years old must be supervised by another individual 15 years or older

  • Children 8-12 may come to the pool alone only after passing a swim test while their parent/guardian is present . Until the swim test is passed, children 8-12 years old require supervision by another individual 15 years or older.

*Supervision is defined as continuous accompaniment and care.

When are the pools open?

The pool schedule will be available in the spring edition of the Reston Activities Guide, typically published in early April each year.

How do I get a pool pass?

Pool & Tennis passes may be purchased online through WebTrac or in person at the Reston Association main office, located at 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive. For questions about non-member passes, go the Pool & Tennis Passes page and click on the appropriate menu item in the list on the left side. You can also contact Member Services via e-mail at member_services@reston.org or by phone at 703-435-6530.

Requirements (for members):

RA members may purchase passes for themselves, their spouse, and immediate family members (1-17 years of age) at RA Member Services if you are 18 years old or older. Please bring a current photo ID and proof of owning or occupying a Reston residence where the RA assessment account is current.

Note: Any household members 18 years and older (excluding spouse) must personally purchase their passes by meeting the above requirements.

What happens if forget my pool pass at home?

A team member will be able to look up your information and admit you if you have an active Recreation Pass.

Can I bring a guest to the pool with me?

Yes. Pre-purchased All Season Guest Passes will be accepted at the pools.

What toys/equipment can I bring to the pools?

Soft, flexible toys are permitted in the main and wading pools as long as they do not cause an unsafe situation and are at least 3 inches in diameter. Throwing objects is not permitted except at pools with basketball hoops during times when the pool is not crowded. Inflatable toys and noodles are not permitted. Small water guns will be permitted unless they are disruptive to other patrons. Exercise and instructional equipment may be used for its intended purpose so long as it is not disruptive to other patrons.

Can I bring a life jacket or arm floaties?

Coast Guard approved lifejackets are permitted so long as they fit properly and are fully fastened. Children 7 or younger wearing a lifejacket must be within arm’s reach of a supervisor in the water. Individuals 8 or older wearing a lifejacket must be under direct supervision. No other floatation devices (water-wings, floaties, noodles) are permitted.

Does my baby need a pool pass?

Children under 1 year old do not require a pool pass.

May I bring outside food and drink to the pool?

Yes, you are welcome to bring food and non-alcoholic beverages to the pool, however, glass containers are not permitted and we ask that you eat in the grass beach or designated picnic area.

What programs and classes do you offer?

RA is proud to offer a variety of aquatics classes and programs for all ages and abilities. These include;

What should I do if I lose my pool pass?

Come by our main office to purchase a replacement at a reduced rate. Replacement passes cannot be purchased online.

How do I sign up for programs?

Most of our programs are for sale online and in-person using your Reston Association account. Visit the WebTrac to set up your account or purchase classes.

Exceptions: Triathlons, swim teams, kayak, and SCUBA programs are offered at RA facilities in partnership with other organizations who manage registration.

I lost something at the pool. Where should I go to see if it has been found?

If an item is left at the pool it will be collected and saved until the pool closes for the day and then disposed of at the end of the day. Items such as phones, wallets, or similar valuables will be stored longer, and we will attempt to locate the owner.
