Reston Association Adopts 2024-2025 Budget, Assessment Rate

(Posted Nov. 21, 2023) Pledging a member-focused budget that includes a sustained or improved high-level of service for all Reston Association members, the Reston Association Board of Directors approved a $22.1 million budget for 2024 and set the member assessment fee at $817. This fee, designed to streamline operations and provide cost savings to many members, now includes recreational passes for members and decreases operational costs for the Association.

In addition to the inclusive recreational passes for members, the 2024 budget also increases lifeguard salaries and holds steady programming fees. The budget calls for a 4% increase in boat mooring and other fees as well as a 35% increase in the costs of non-member recreational passes, bringing the non-member family pass to $705 for 2024.

“We heard consistently throughout the year that our members value our recreational amenities; however, things like pool availability and recreational fees were barriers to many of our families,” said Mac Cummins, CEO of Reston Association. “We wanted to provide a budget that prioritizes what our members have told us they value most.”

The vast majority of Reston Association’s revenue comes from the annual assessment fee, which pays for the maintenance of all pools, tennis courts, lakes, open spaces, and other amenities, programs and administrative operations. The association’s covenants policies and staff help protect property values and ensure Reston maintains desired design standards.

Invoices for the annual assessment fee, which is charged to all Reston property owners within the association, will be mailed to all members in mid-December. Payments are due January 1, 2024, and late fees will be charged to any payments not received prior to March 1. Reduced rates are available to property owners who participate in the Fairfax County Tax Relief program. RA also offers installment plans.

Members are encouraged to use RA’s online portal to pay their assessments. The association also offers ways for property owners to make payments in person, by phone or mail, or by using the drop box located at RA headquarters, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive, Reston. Email Member Services at Member_Services@reston.org or call 703-435-6530 for additional information regarding 2024 assessment payments.
