Hunter’s Woods Ballfield Park Project Complete

(Posted Nov. 7, 2023)

Reston Association has announced that the new community park located on the former Hunter’s Woods ballfield is now complete, bringing a new pathway network, landscaping with native plants, park furniture, improved drainage and a little free library to the site. At the same time, a number of mature trees on the site were also preserved, maintaining shaded areas and varying landscapes for the community to enjoy.

This community-based effort provides a new gathering place for the Reston community on the site of a formerly underutilized ballfield site. Improvements made to the site make it much more accessible and inviting to the community for a variety of recreational uses. The project was completed several months ahead of schedule and approximately 20% under budget.

“This redevelopment project gives new life to valuable greenspace in Reston,” said Chris Schumaker, Director of Capital Projects at Reston Association.” We’re thrilled to be able to work directly with the community to create a space that is beneficial to the surrounding neighborhoods. It’s really a win-win effort.”

This redevelopment is a true community-based effort to make this site more usable and interesting for residents in the surrounding neighborhoods. RA worked with neighboring property owners and cluster associations, along with its planning and design consultant, Kimley-Horn and Associates. The concept plan was presented and approved in 2020 by the Hunters Woods Neighborhood Coali􀆟on, RA Board of Directors and the RA Design Review Board and received site plan approval on the project from Fairfax County.
