Board Selects Refurbishment Plan for Pool

(Posted Apr. 1, 2022) The Reston Association Board of Directors approved a plan last week to refurbish the Shadowood Recreation Area, with the focus being on pool facility upgrades. The estimated cost of the capital project is $750,000 to $1 million.

The board choose between three project options for Shadowod, which included a plan for less costly repairs, a mid-priced refurbishment and a total renovation of the facility. By choosing the mid-priced plan, RA will have to seek Design Review Board and site plan approvals. The more modest repair plan would not have required DRB and site approvals and would have cost about $300,000-$500,000. The timetable for approvals is 4-6 months. The pool will be closed for the 2022 season.

The work that is planned for Shadowood includes repairs to the facility roof and re-plastering of the main pool. In addition, RA and its contractors will reconfigure the pool for lap lanes, relocate an existing transformer, upgrade the security fence and provide an accessible route from the parking lot to the pool house.
