Condo Talk: Common Area Considerations

(Posted Mar. 12, 2024) Maintaining your condominium association’s common area is hard work… the good news is that your dedicated Covenants Advisor is here to help!

You may not know you need to submit DRB applications for items such as security cameras and signs. Additionally, as you are diligently preparing your common area for springtime, a gentle reminder that any installations on the common area such as benches, grills, or tot lots also need to go through RA’s design review process.

For improvements such as tree removals, most applications for three (3) live trees or less can be reviewed by staff within five (5) business days If the arborist has substantiated a tree is dead, you may remove it without applying if it is not on a DRB-approved landscaping plan. If you haven’t already contacted an ISA-certified arborist to perform a tree inventory, it may be more cost-effective to remove any hazardous trees while there are no leaves.

Staff maintains a Vendor Sheet we would be happy to share with you if you are looking for vendors or service providers who have been used by other community associations here in Reston. with any questions about condo Design Guidelines or the DRB application process.
