(Posted Sep. 28, 2021) Did you know that Fairfax County recently adopted it’s first climate action plan? Abbreviated as CECAP, the Community-wide Energy and Climate Action Plan aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions with the objective of moving the county to carbon neutrality by 2050. Specifically, the CECAP report establishes a set of recommendations for improving the environmental future of Fairfax County and its residents through measurable goals in 12 areas of focus, including:

  • Waste management

  • Electric vehicles

  • Increasing onsite renewable energy

  • Energy efficient buildings

  • Onsite renewable energy

  • Green building standards

  • Waste reduction

  • Supporting natural systems and green spaces.

While 2050 is the ultimate focus year for delivering results, the plan also includes interim goals for 2030 and 2040. CECAP was developed by a diverse group of stakeholders that included community residents, business owners and employees, and representatives from the nonprofit sector. The county’s Board of Supervisors voted to accept the final report on Sept. 14. Click here to learn more about Fairfax County’s Community-wide Energy and Climate Action Plan.
