(Posted Jun. 2, 2021) Let’s face it, moving can be a challenging but necessary undertaking. During this time of the year, many of us are juggling the multitude of moving parts that come along with the process of transitioning your family from one home to another. Following are just a few tips and tricks for keeping your cool while you’re on the move:

  • Did you know that your intrastate move is regulated by the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles? The DMV offers a handy quick sheet for Virginians on the move.

  • Especially if you’re new to Fairfax County, you may want to consider registering for Fairfax Alerts. Users can opt into a variety of delivery methods and customize the information that they receive, to include updates on weather, traffic, schools and elections, among other topics.

  • Buying or selling residential property in Reston will require the purchase of a current set of resale disclosure documents. Property owners (or their authorized agents) will need to order these documents from Reston Association in advance of settlement via WelcomeLink. Note that only the property owner of record (or their authorized agent) may purchase and receive these documents. Furthermore, your document packet will include the results of an inspection of the exterior of your home performed by Covenants staff, in addition to assessment information and disclosures concerning Reston Association’s governance.

  • If you are moving from a property that is also located within a condominium or cluster association, you will also need to contact these sub-homeowners’ associations to request their disclosures as well.

The Covenants Advisor assigned to your property in Reston is your best resource for responding to any questions you might have about the results of your resale inspection; sellers should reach out to discuss and resolve in advance of settlement and new property owners should connect for an introduction to Reston’s protective covenants and discussion of any outstanding property violations.

Best wishes for a successful move, wherever you are headed!
