Little Free Libraries In and Around Reston

(Posted Nov. 14, 2023) Little Free Libraries have been popping up across Reston! These community-building book-exchange depots are the product of the eponymous Little Free Library (LFL) non-profit organization, which stewards the installation and maintenance of LFLs across the globe.

Reston Association members, condo and cluster associations alike have succeeded in establishing a significant LFL presence throughout the community. You can find the closest Reston LFL using this helpful online mapping tool or by downloading the LFL mobile app; you may find a Little Free Library just down the street that you didn’t even know about yet!

Installing an LFL does require the submission of a DRB application by the owner of record of the property where the LFL will be installed. Cluster and condo associations interested in an LFL installation on common ground should contact their Covenants Advisor about the streamlined review of their proposed library. Members who would like to install an LFL on their own property should expect to prepare a DRB application for review as well. Please note, that natural materials are preferred by the DRB to maintain the natural aesthetic within the Reston Community. Please contact Covenants Staff for more information on preparing and submitting your Little Free Library DRB application.
