Condo Talk: New Design Guidelines Coming Soon

(Posted Sept. 5, 2023) Over the past year, Reston Association Staff has been diligently working to develop Design Guidelines related to condominium associations. Existing Design Guidelines for property types such as single-family detached homes, commercial spaces, cluster associations, and initial construction provide valuable information for property owners on how to improve their property in conformance with Reston’s protective covenants, in addition to identifying the level of DRB review required for each project. These new guidelines will offer similar information for condominium associations looking to improve common areas with projects such as landscaping installations, tree removals, and tot lots. Additionally, condominium Design Guidelines will serve as a useful reference for individual condominium unit owners by delving into requirements for specific projects including but not limited to window replacements, balcony enclosures, and awnings. Condominium unit owners are encouraged to take note of their association bylaws and identify which elements are the responsibility of the unit owner and which elements are the responsibility of the condominium association.

Please reach out to Charlotte Smith (csmith@reston.org), your designated Covenants Advisor for any condominium-related inquiries!
