Enjoy year-round access to trails, free parking and restroom facilities, dawn to dusk.
Nature House Hours of Operation
Monday and Wednesday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturdays 10 a.m.-1 p.m.
Sundays 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.
Closed to public on Tuesdays.
Closed to the public on RA holidays, including: May 27, July 4, Sept. 2, Nov. 28-29, Dec. 25-26.
If you would like to bring a group to the nature center, please call ahead to arrange your visit. Groups may also request programs at least 3 weeks in advance of their desired dates.

The Walker Nature Center is the heart of Reston’s 1,300 acres of open space. The Center provides a variety of educational and recreational resources, programs and facilities.

The mission of the Center is to foster good environmental stewardship through the use of direct experiences and interpretive media. The Center enhances people’s awareness, knowledge, appreciation, and enjoyment of the environment.

Our Facility
The Nature Center is located on 72-acres of hardwood forest, bisected by Glade Drive. Features include:
  • Nature House
  • 2 miles of loop trails
  • ADA Accessible Native Plant Trail
  • Picnic pavilion
  • Picnic tables and trailside benches
  • Campfire ring
  • Outdoor displays and interpretive signs
  • Demonstration gardens and meadows
  • Pond
  • Glade Stream Valley
  • Snakeden Branch stream’s entrance to 44-acre Lake Audubon
Our Programs
The Nature Center conducts a variety of on-site and outreach programs for people of all ages, including:
Activity packs and nature trunks are also available on loan. 


Did you know...

Outdoor Manners
  • Stay on the trail.
  • Leave all plants and animals where you find them.
  • Put waste into trash cans or recycling containers or carry it out with you.
  • Use extreme caution with cigarettes and matches.
  • Keep pets on a leash.
  • Clean up after your pet.
