Reston Association Parks & Recreation has a wide range of volunteer opportunities and we are happy to work with individuals or groups to find the best volunteer placement based on your interests or needs.

Halloween House & Trick-or-Treat Trail at the Nature Center (October)

The Walker Nature Center’s Halloween event is one our most exciting volunteer opportunities of the year. We’re looking for energetic volunteers to bring this event to life. This is a great opportunity for adults, teens, civic organizations, and college groups. If you have a theatrical streak then you might have what it takes to be one of our Halloween characters that delight and educate visitors. All costumes, props and scripts will be provided. Costumed characters should be people who enjoy Halloween and will really “get into” their role. You do not have to memorize the script. Each station is based on a theme with key talking points and sample dialogue. Ad-lib comments which fit with the mood of the station! Check back in September for volunteer assignments. Photos.

Multicultural Festival at Lake Anne Plaza (September)

The Reston Multicultural Festival is an annual event that brings together the people of Reston to celebrate our rich medley of cultures. The festival opening will include a Naturalization Ceremony where America’s newest citizens will take the Oath of Allegiance. Come and share with family, friends, and neighbors the music, entertainment, dress, food, and cultural treasures from all over the world that are all right here. This signature Reston event honors the diversity that is one of our greatest assets. Check back in August for volunteer assignments. Photos.

Spring Festival at the Nature Center (May)

The festival will feature entertainment, displays and information from Environmental groups, hands-on nature activities, carnival style games, canoe and kayak rentals on Lake Audubon, fishing activities, food and a whole lot of fun. We are looking for volunteers to help with carnival games, hands-on crafts, registration, fishing, and much more. To register: Log Into VicNet - Volunteer Portal.

Summer Community Events Assistant (June-August)

Volunteers are needed to work at community special events held throughout the summer months. These are typically one day events held during the evening or on a weekend. Help out at our family dive-in movies, hot tub movies, kid's events and much more. Check back in May for volunteer assignments.
