NOTICE (9/14/18): Storm Information Hurricane Florence made landfall in North Carolina on Friday. According to forecasts, the storm is not expected to have a significant impact on Northern Virginia, although rain is probable this weekend. If public safety issues related to the storm do arise in our area, up-to-date information can be found here: Fairfax County Emergency Information. For emergency situations involving downed or hanging trees on Reston Association property, call the Central Services Facility at 703-437-7658. RA is only responsible for downed trees in common areas.

Environmental Discussion Sept. 5

The Reston Historic Trust & Museum will host a discussion titled "Assessing the Environmental Quality of a Place Called Reston" on Sept. 5 at the Reston Community Center, 1609 Washington Plaza (Lake Anne). The talk, hosted by Doug Britt, a Virginia Master Naturalist and member of the Reston Association Environmental Advisory Committee, begins at 7 p.m.

Special Board Meeting Aug. 20

The Reston Association Board of Directors will hold a special meeting and work session with the Fiscal Committee on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. Draft 1 of the 2019 Operating and Capital Budgets, and the PRC Zoning Ordinance Amendment will be discussed. There will also be an executive session to review personnel matters related to the CEO search.

Open House at The Lake House

Fairfax County work sessions will address four key concerns related to the proposed Planned Residential Community district amendment. The dates and locations are as follows (all at 6 p.m.): July 17: Transportation (12005 Sunrise Valley Drive, Conference Center); July 18: Parks and Recreation (12005 Sunrise Valley Drive, Conference Center); July 24: Schools/Infrastructure – Fire and Rescue (RA Conference Center, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive); July 30: Planning (RA Conference Center, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive)

Reston Crescent Project Update

The Fairfax County Planning Commission is scheduled to review the Reston Crescent mixed-use project, which will include a new Wegmans grocery store, on June 28, according to the Washington Business Journal. The project will be located near the future Reston Town Center Metro station.

Help Reston Association identify plants and animals by volunteering for the Reston BioBlitz on June 2. We will document Reston’s biodiversity so RA can have improved baseline data to utilize in future conservation decision-making and action. This event is open to everyone, including scientists, naturalists, high school/college students and volunteers with expert or beginner knowledge.

Hunters Woods/Dogwood District Seat

The Reston Association Board of Directors is expected to fill the vacant Hunters Woods/Dogwood District representative seat at its May 24 meeting. Four candidates have applied for the board position and will be interviewed during the meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. at RA headquarters, 12001 Sunrise Valley Drive.

Community Yard Sale

Reston Association will hold a community yard sale May 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eighty-five families will be selling a variety of goods. Vendor space is sold out.
