DRB and Covenants Committee

Call For Committee Volunteers

Reston Association is seeking volunteers to serve on our Covenants Committee and Cluster & Condo Advisory Committee.

Covenants Committee: A Reston Association Member, owning property and living Reston is needed to serve the remainder of a three-year term ending May 2010 on the Covenants Committee. This Committee is responsible for administering the Use of Property (maintenance) and Residential Property (use) Covenants and considers/determines cases concerning these areas.

Cluster & Condo Advisory Committee: Reston Association Members who live in or serve on a Cluster or Condominium Board are needed to serve for a three-year term on the Cluster & Condo Advisory Committee. This Committee assists the Board of Directors by: 1) serving as information resource to Reston Cluster and Condominium Associations; and 2) fostering communications between the Association and residential property owners on such issues including but not limited to property management, maintenance, and revitalization.

The Covenants Committee is appointed by RA's Board of Directors to administer the Use/Maintenance Covenants, i.e. those covenants that address such property-related issues as lack of maintenance, overgrown vegetation, refuse and debris, and operating a business out of the home. As the community ages, the role of the Covenants Committee becomes more and more important.

As a member of the Committee, you would:

  • Inspect properties that are the subject of use or maintenance complaints
  • Participate in monthly hearings to consider and decide violations cases
  • Develop enforcement procedures
  • Determine courses of action for persons found in violation

 You could be a real asset to this committee if you are:

  • Concerned about the appearance of the community.
  • Interested in upholding Reston's property values.
  • Able to meet in the evening on the first Wednesday of each month.
  • Able to give 5-7 hours a month for a 3-year term.
  • Skilled in mediation and negotiation techniques.

Committee Appointments

The Committee consists of one member from each of the four districts in Reston, an RA Board member, and legal counsel. Terms are staggered and extend for three years.

  • North Point
  • South Lakes
  • Hunters Woods/Dogwood
  • Tall Oaks/Lake Anne

One member will be appointed to the Covenants Committee for a term of three years. This Committee administers the Use of Property (maintenance) and Residential Property (use) Covenants and considers and decides cases concerning them.

  • A concern for the community and its members
  • A willingness to commit one's time and efforts
  • Any training, skills, or abilities that relate to the work of the Committee
