GOODNIGHT FOREST

Reserve by April 18

Do squirrels brush their teeth? How do deer tuck themselves in? What about those night owls that stay up way past dark? Enjoy an evening walk, and find out how the forest gets ready for bed.

WILDFLOWER WALK WITH MOM

This Mother’s Day weekend, bring your mom to Reston’s Wildflower Trail. See a variety of spring ephemerals such as Virginia bluebells,
spring beauties, trillium, jack-in-the-pulpit, and more! Learn about wildflower identification and folklore. Find out which wildflowers grow well in Reston and where you can buy them for your own backyard. We’ll also make a simple flower craft to give to mom for her special day.

REEL IN THE FUN

Ever wonder what kinds of fish call Reston's lakes home? Learn fish facts, fishing basics and practice casting. We'll provide rods and bait. Those 16 and older wishing to fish will need a fishing license available on-line at www.dgif.state.va.us.

SUNRISE VALLEY WETLAND at SUNSET

Enjoy a leisurely stroll around the Sunrise Valley Wetland. Bring a flashlight, binoculars, or any other nature detective tool with you to experience your natural surroundings. This is a great time of year to experience the diversity of nature.

JUNE BUGS

The nighttime is alive with insects. Find out which insects prefer the dark and how they move with only the light of the moon to guide them. Go on a search to see how many June bugs we can find!

INDEPENDENCE CAMPFIRE

Celebrate America's birthday by singing patriotic songs around a campfire. Sample a tasty treat prepared in a Dutch oven and make your own butter. Play colonial games and have some good old-fashioned
fun.

SOUNDS OF SUMMER

Summer is a noisy time of year in nature. Listen for chirps of katydids, hoots of owls, and croaks of frogs. Take an evening stroll through the woodlands and down to Lake Audubon to figure out which critters are making all that racket.

STREAM SLOSH

In and under the water, on the banks around, even in the air and trees, wildlife here abounds. Take a refreshing slosh through Buttermilk Creek,
and look for the aquatic animals that call it home. Wear your wading shoes and clothes that can get dirty. We will provide nets and buckets.

MEADOW MAGIC

Learn what makes a meadow a magical habitat. Identify wildflowers and grasses, survey the sky for songbirds, butterflies and dragonflies, and inspect the ground for turtles and rabbits. Learn how Reston maintains these beautiful habitats.

OWL PROWL

Enjoy a nighttime walk as we search for owls and other nightlife. Get an up close look at live owls, listen for the sounds of owl calls, and try to spot an owl. Bring a flashlight for a "hooting" good time!

SOLAR SATURDAY

Everyday the sun is hard at work supplying heat and light to our planet. Do experiments to see just how powerful the sun's rays are. Make a beaded bracelet that detects sunlight and use the sun to cook a yummy treat.

GONE BATTY

Come and see one of these creatures of the night up close. Join a local bat specialist from BatWorld Nova to learn more about these amazing creatures. We’ll take a night hike with a bat detector and find the wild bats of Reston.

SEPTEMBER SCAVENGER HUNT

The nature center is full of hidden treasures. Go on a scavenger hunt to find them all. Be ready to look high in the trees and low on the ground as you follow a trail of clues. Who knows where the clues will lead us? But
we’ll all collect a prize at the end.

NUTTY SQUIRRELS

Shake your bushy tail as we search for our furry friends. At the Nature Center, there are always plenty of grey squirrels to spot. Go on a walk looking for their homes, food, and friends. We will read a story and sing a song about these fun creatures.

BEE-UTIFUL FLOWERS

RAINBOW FISH

Explore Marcus Pfister's childhood classic, “The Rainbow Fish,” and meet some of the fish who live in Reston's lakes. Make your own rainbow fish. Toss a fishing line into Lake Audubon and look for frogs and insects.
