Reston Adopt-a-Spot
Program Terms & Conditions

  • Participants in this program must be accepted by Reston Association (RA).

  • Any local community organization, business, or individual (18 years or older) will be eligible to adopt a spot. However, RA reserves the right to deny adoption requests for any reason.

  • Adoption length is a minimum of two years, with four clean-ups a year. If the adoption is at a busy area (i.e. park, ball field) it will be necessary to increase the frequency of clean-ups.

  • An adult must supervise group members less then 15 years of age.

  • Participants should hold two meetings a year to review safety guidelines. No participant may be involved in a clean up without attending a meeting.

  • RA will supply information trash bags, and safety vests if needed.

  • RA will provide information on the disposal of trash.

  • Participants are encouraged to recycle.

  • Reston Association will provide a sign noting the program and the participants name for installation in the clean-up area.

  • RA will monitor the progress of the program.

  • After each cleanup, adoption groups must file an activity report detailing the number of people involved, number of bags of litter collected, recyclable, and hours involved. Printed forms are available from RA. Or you can contact the Reston Adopt-A-Spot coordinators, who will gladly fulfill these requirements for you.

  • Adopting groups are encouraged to schedule two of their clean-ups in April and October to coincide with statewide cleanups.

  • RA reserves the right to revise terms as needed. The adopting group will receive copies of programs conditions, signed agreement, safety tips & activity reporting form.

For any other safety concerns or questions, please call RA’s Volunteer Coordinator (703) 435-7986 or email HaBrock@reston.org
