Dear New Homeowner:
Welcome to Reston! The
Reston Association is committed to providing the residents
of our community with outstanding educational, leisure
and recreational programs, and to maintain our property
values by adhering to the high standards of design, maintenance,
and use as insisted upon by those who live in our community.
While there are a few exceptions, as a residential property
owner in Reston, you are automatically a member of Reston
Association (RA)–Reston's homeowner's association,
a private, non-profit, non-stock corporation. The
assessment that you pay annually helps the Association
defray some of the costs involved in our providing you
with the programs, services and facilities I mentioned
above.
One of your responsibilities is
to provide the Reston Association with your current billing
address for the annual assessment invoice. Unless
notified in writing of the appropriate billing address,
invoices will be mailed to the property address. To update
your billing address, please contact Billing Collection
by mail at RA, by fax: (703) 435-6519, or by email: Billingcollection@reston.org;
remember to include your name, the property address, the
billing address and your contact information.
As property owners, you are also
responsible for complying with the standards of care, maintenance
and design our community has established. Prior to proceeding with any changes
to your property, you should check with RA to determine whether
or not they require the Association’s review and approval.
RA is responsible for maintaining
Reston’s many amenities,
which include 1,350 acres of open space, 4 lakes, 15 swimming
pools, 49 tennis and multipurpose courts, 34 tot lots, 25
ball fields, and approximately 50 miles of pathways. We
also offer many educational, nature, and day camp programs.
RA also attempts to preserve property
values through administration and enforcement of the covenants
and restrictions that govern the use of property, as specified
in the Reston Deed. Property
values are also protected through the design review process. The
Association appoints members and funds the Design Review
Board (DRB), an independent agency responsible for approving
all changes to the external appearance of your property.
The enclosed Disclosure Kit includes RA's Design
Guidelines with information on the design review process,
Use Covenants, Procedures and Policies, general and financial
information, a summary of your rights and responsibilities,
and information specific to your property.
Please call us at (703) 435-6530
or stop by our offices if you would like more information
on Reston Association programs, services, and amenities
or to register for one of our many activities. Office
hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM until 5:00 PM. From
April through July, the Membership Services desk is also
open on Saturdays from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon.
We look forward to serving you.
Sincerely,
Milton
