Commerce Metro Center

Commerce Metro Center

Overview

Commerce Metro Center (currently known as the Commerce Executive Center) is a new and not started redevelopment located at the southern entrance to the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station. In the plan, the existing buildings and surface parking lots will be transformed into a mixed-use development including residential, office, an option for hotel, and ground floor retail. One of the office buildings in this proposed development is currently planned to be 22 stories tall. This project was approved by the Fairfax County Planning Commission on Oct. 6, 2016 and by the Board of Supervisors on Dec. 6, 2016.

The owner who went through the entitlement process was New York-based Vornado Realty Trust, which had purchased the local Charles E. Smith Co. in 2002. In 2017 Vornado merged its Smith subsidiary with JBG Co. and it became JBG Smith, which held the property until its sale in early 2019 to Comstock Holding Companies. Comstock now controls the northern and southern properties of the Wiehle-Reston East Metro platforms. Click here to view the Fairfax County Staff Report for this project.
