General
Opportunities
The
Design Review Board (DRB) is responsible for reviewing
all additions and alterations to many different types
of Reston properties. To assist in the review process,
the DRB develops Design Guidelines and review procedures,
and establishes design standards for clusters.
The
DRB is composed of nine members who serve for three-year terms.
Seven of the members must be professionals in the area of
design - architects, landscape architects or planners. There
are no professional requirements for the other two members,
but they must be members of the Reston Association.
DRB
members generally have an interest in the design concepts
on which the community was established and are motivated by
a desire to serve its members. Experience in conducting public
meetings and working with people is helpful in this role.
The
DRB meets every Tuesday evening in groups of three, on a rotating
basis. The Full DRB meets once a month. On average a DRB member
is expected to attend two meetings each month, and to review
the applications and visit certain of the properties prior
to the meeting.
Appointments
are made by the RA Board of Directors at the beginning of
each year. If you would like to be considered for a position
on the DRB, please provide a letter of interest and a brief
resume to the DRB Secretary.
There
are always one or more Design Professional seats available
in any given year.
Send us
an e-mail if you would
like additional information about this committee or other
volunteer opportunities.
