Lake Newport has been experiencing a dramatic growth of bladderwort, a submerged aquatic plant that floats to the surface forming dense mats. Bladderwort is unique in that it captures its food in tiny bladders, similar to the Venus Fly Trap. There are no health-related issues associated with the existence of this plant on the lake.
An array of efforts to manage and communicate land use and development initiatives were a focal point of discussions at Thursday night’s Board of Directors meeting.
The Reston Association Board of Directors approved motions related to the Tetra Working Group and Multi-modal Advisory Committee during Thursday night’s regular meeting. The board also tabled a vote on proposed changes to Design Review Board guidelines.
Reston’s founder, Robert E. Simon Jr., believed that a good life was a product of being part of a cohesive, well-planned community. From the goals he established for Reston in the early 1960s to where he lived until his final day, Simon practiced what he preached and left behind a community that has far exceeded the loftiest of expectations. Simon died at his Lake Anne home on Monday at age 101.
