Board Approves 2019 Budget, Sets Assessment Rate

The Reston Association Board of Directors approved the second year of the 2018/2019 biennial budget Thursday night. As a result of finalizing the $17.9 million 2019 budget, the annual assessment rate for members was set at $693, which is an $11 increase from last year’s fee.

Larry Butler, the acting CEO for Reston Association, will present his recommendations for the 2019 Operating and Capital Budgets at a public hearing Nov. 8. The proposed budget, if approved by the Board of Directors at its Nov. 15 meeting, would increase members’ assessment fee $11, setting the rate at $693.

RA Board Hears Hidden Creek Presentation

The Reston Association Board of Directors heard a presentation at its Thursday, Sept. 27 meeting from representatives of the Hidden Creek Country Club. Wheelock Communities, a real estate development and management company, purchased the golf course in 2017 and is exploring the possibility of making changes to the property.

Microcystis Bloom Found in Lakes

(Updated 9/19/2018) A harmful algae bloom named Microcystis was found on Lake Audubon Thursday, Sept. 6 and is still present as of Sept. 19. Reston Association staff has also confirmed that Microcystis is present at Lake Thoreau. Some species of the algae can produce toxins that can be lethal to livestock, fish and people, and have been linked to liver cancer.
