Microcystis Bloom Found in Lakes

(Updated 9/19/2018) A harmful algae bloom named Microcystis was found on Lake Audubon Thursday, Sept. 6 and is still present as of Sept. 19. Reston Association staff has also confirmed that Microcystis is present at Lake Thoreau. Some species of the algae can produce toxins that can be lethal to livestock, fish and people, and have been linked to liver cancer.

Algae Bloom at Lake Thoreau Reappears

(Updated Sept. 7, 2018) Lake Thoreau is experiencing another bloom of Planktothrix rubescens algae. This uniquely purple-colored algae appeared as a result of the heavy rains washing different types of nutrients and sediment into the lake.

Home Resale Disclosure Document Fees Updated

A resolution concerning an increase in disclosure document fees was adopted by the Reston Association Board of Directors recently and will go into effect Monday, Aug. 20. The new fees are in accordance with the Property Owners’ Association Act, which requires homeowners to provide a potential purchaser with certain legally required information regarding the home.
