Reston Tennis was presented the “Public Facility of the Year” award by the Professional Tennis Registry. Reston Association Tennis and Pickleball Manager, Rob Tucker, accepted the award at the international tennis symposium held in South Carolina on Feb. 12-13.
“PTR is an important partner,” said Tucker. “With excellent coach education and certification, PTR provides the correct tools to bring tennis to everyone.”
RA began building tennis courts in the mid-1960s. Twenty-six of the 52 courts in Reston are now lighted, eight are Har-Tru courts, including four HydoGrid built in 2019. In addition, RA has six permanent 36-foot courts for children’s tennis.
In 2014, Racquet Sport Industry magazine named Reston Association tennis its “Parks & Recreation Agency of the Year.”
In 2019, RA had 550 junior (ages 3-17) lesson takers from beginners to 4.5 level advanced players. More than 350 adults took lessons to improve their games.
RA works closely with the USTA to hosts tournaments for all age groups and skill levels. More than 350 players join in playing GWTA, NVTL, Reston Team Tennis and senior leagues. RA also promotes tennis via its scholarship program, offering free racquets and lessons for individuals or families in financial need.
