Douglas Britt was selected by the Reston Association Board of Directors Thursday night to fill the empty at-large seat on the board. The seat became vacant due to a resignation last month. Because this is a board-appointed position, the term will only run through April 2020. The seat will then be placed on the election ballot in 2020 and the winning candidate will serve the final year of the term.
The board passed a motion by written consent last month to invite qualified candidates to apply for the position by submitting a statement of candidacy. Britt was then selected to fill the seat at the board’s May 23 meeting.
Britt has lived in Reston for 44 years and his professional background is in the fields of life sciences, natural resources management and sustainable development. He has served at a volunteer stream monitor, worked at Walker Nature Center events and drafted Reston’s successful Biophilic Cities Network application. Britt currently serves on the Environmental Advisory Committee and led the RASER project.
