The Reston Association Board of Directors approved the second year of the 2018/2019 biennial budget Thursday night. As a result of finalizing the $17.9 million 2019 budget, the annual assessment rate for members was set at $693, which is an $11 increase from last year’s fee.
The association will mail assessment packets to members Dec. 7, 2018. Payment will be due Jan. 1, 2019. Six-month installment plans are available to members.
In order to limit the assessment increase to 1.6 percent, association managers trimmed approximately $280,000 from initial expense estimates stated in the first draft of the budget. The board also directed the association’s staff to increase employee health insurance contributions.
The board approved a measure to start passing on credit card fees to members beginning Jan. 1, 2019 for purchases made through WebTrac. The credit card service fees would be charged to members who purchase pool and tennis passes, activity registrations and other items sold through the website, thereby reducing costs for the association. Beginning in 2020 assessment-related credit card transaction fees will also be passed through to the cardholder.
The annual assessment helps fund park, recreational areas and pathway maintenance, as well as pool and tennis facility operations and natural resource management. The assessment fees also provide members with a wide range of fun and healthy activities and educational opportunities for all ages. Assessment revenue also provides the funding for RA to ensure standards are met for property maintenance and design.
